Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “bayağı sindirilebilirler”) teşhismlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bentlanmasıyla oluşan kısaca polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lafıntısı ile öbürü arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok nüshada polipeptit ast birimi barındırır). Anayasa nüans peptitlerin kısaca, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, öbür amino asite sürekli, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bentlanır. Polipeptid konstrüksiyonsına acımasızlan amino asitlerin her biri konstrüksiyonya peptid bentlarıyla bentlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir sutaş çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Averaj bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine acımasızlan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, serbest amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öbür ucundaki serbest α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
